The Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) lets employers fill critical labour gaps on the farm when Canadians and permanent residents aren’t available. To qualify, you must:
-
Hire from participating countries: Citizens of Mexico and designated Caribbean nations
-
Operate in eligible commodity sectors: From fruits and vegetables to dairy, maple syrup, floriculture and more
-
Engage in on-farm primary agriculture: All activities must take place on your farm
-
Pay prevailing wages: Ensure your salary offers meet or exceed the province’s prevailing wage rate for the specific agricultural commodity—click here (select “Job Bank” or “Agricultural Commodity”) to verify
-
Offer sufficient work: Provide at least 240 hours of work within any 6-week period
Under SAWP, workers can join you for up to 8 months (January 1–December 15). This overview outlines the key eligibility rules and next steps—so you can prepare a compliant LMIA application and build your seasonal agricultural workforce with confidence.
