The mmigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) establishes Canada’s modern immigration and refugee framework. Enacted in 2001, IRPA defines the objectives of economic and humanitarian immigration, prescribes selection criteria for permanent residents and temporary entrants, and outlines the refugee-protection process. It also empowers authorities to enforce inadmissibility rules, authorize detention, and carry out removals, with statutory appeal and review mechanisms.
Under IRPA, Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs) are authorized to provide expert advice, prepare applications, and represent clients before Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, ensuring full compliance with the Act’s requirements.
